How to exfoliate your face and body the right way - Bella Vita Organic

If you thought that your skincare routine is doing the best for your skin with cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and SPF, think again. If smooth, healthy, and younger-looking skin is what you’re aiming towards, EXFOLIATION is the ultimate solution you should opt for in your skincare regime. Well, some quote that it makes their skin irritated and red but it’s not when you’re doing it correctly. It’s an essential step to help and get the skin you have always dreamt of, so we are dedicated to breaking all your doubts. Team Bella Vita Organic is here to explain and master the art of exfoliation to achieve that flawless skin of your dreams.

What Is Exfoliation & Need Of It?

It’s a process where we use a mild abrasive to scrub away the dead skin cells and impurities that clog up the pores and cause flaky dull skin. And as we age, the dead skin cells build up and tend to make your skin look dull and washed out therefore it’s recommended to exfoliate all over. Regular exfoliation helps our skin to absorb serum, makeup, and moisturizers better which ultimately makes a healthy glow complexion.

Exfoliation oxygenates the skin, stimulates the regeneration of cells, softens the skin while prepping your skin for maximum effectiveness. Wait up, there’s more, as exfoliating before and after the hair removal process helps to keep that dastardly ingrown hair at bay. Sometimes, the dead cells don’t shed completely which ultimately results in flaky patches and clogged pores, so exfoliating can help prevent this.

And if you’re still thinking why exfoliation is needed? With exfoliation, you can improve the appearance of your skin in several ways as it leaves your skin looking brighter and improving the effectiveness of topical skin care products. And regular exfoliation helps to prevent clogged pores and resulting in fewer breakouts on your skin. And with regular exfoliation at least once or twice a week, you are increasing collagen production as collagen is the key to vibrant and glowing skin. Through this, you are promoting skin elasticity while minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Invest In Natural Ingredients For Exfoliation

If you want to get the most of your exfoliation, you should know your skin type as every skin is unique and responds to some exfoliants. Using abrasive ingredients can do more harm than well to your skin. With the skin’s level of sebum and oil production, you can review your skin type and choose the natural ingredient for exfoliation.

Honey: Honey in itself is healthy for your immunity and skin as well. It has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory properties with a hydrating factor that makes your skin more nourished. Raw organic honey is best used as a facial scrub that helps to keep acne at bay, due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

Papaya: The papin is what makes a Papaya and it works as an effective exfoliant. It dissolves the keratin in dead skin cells to smooth and nourish the skin. Also, Papaya helps in promoting blood circulation and elasticity of your skin. One can mask Papaya into a smooth paste and let it sit for 15 minutes, then finally rinse with water and pat dry. It’s an ideal combination for oily skin.

Coffee: When it comes to exfoliation, ground coffee is an excellent exfoliant that scrubs away dead skin cells and debris. Caffeine has been shown to plump your skin and helps in fighting the signs of aging such as dark spots and wrinkles.

Oatmeal: It’s a common ingredient in skin care products and is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Oatmeal is non-irritating and gentle on your skin and it protects against harmful UVA rays as well. One can combine oatmeal and coconut oil or honey as it is an ideal exfoliant for people with sensitive and dry skin.

Tips To Exfoliate Your Body & Face Properly

Process Of Exfoliation

Depending on your skin type, preferences and concerns, one should always start by cleansing and toning the skin. By cleansing, we mean using a surface cleanser/face wash and deep cleanses i.e. exfoliator, use a pea-sized amount of face scrub on the moist skin, and gently massage in a circular motion. Also, make it a point not to apply much pressure as your skin might cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Just like over exaggerating, overusing an exfoliator can lead to multiple skin problems like redness, acne, and breakouts. Unfortunately, it might end up being counterproductive for your skin, think like redness, irritation, peeling, dryness, and bruising. It is recommended to exfoliate twice a week and settling on the right exfoliation routine does require trial-and-error. Overly sensitive skin might do best with exfoliating just once a week. Always, pay attention to how your skin responds each time you exfoliate!

Exfoliate According To Your Skin Type

It’s important to be gentle on your skin, so you can make small, circular motions using your fingers. Exfoliate for about 30 seconds to 1 minute and then rinse off with lukewarm water. Always avoid exfoliating your skin if it has open cuts or wounds. Once you’re done exfoliating, gently tap some moisturizer.

Oily Skin: Overproduction of natural oil from your skin’s sebaceous glands results in oily skin type. The major cause of roots can be humidity, hormones and your skin might feel greasy all the time especially your T-zone. Oily skin tends to have an extra layer of buildup on the surface of your skin and an exfoliator can remove all the impurities and dead skin cells.  Gently use an exfoliator in circular motions for best results.

Dry Skin: If you have dry skin, it needs exfoliation. If you don’t exfoliate regularly, the layer of dead skin cells sits on the top of your skin which makes it harder for other skincare products to penetrate deep into your skin. Also, it makes your dry skin look more dull and flaky. It’s important to find the right kind of ingredient and product which doesn’t make your skin look drier.

Sensitive Skin: It’s a myth that one with sensitive skin can’t exfoliate as one should be gentle to their skin and can exfoliate once or twice a week. Since, the skin can become irritated, dry, and red easily look for a product that has enriched and natural ingredients that don’t harm your skin.  If you have sensitive skin, it’s recommended not to scrub your skin or use a cleansing brush as both of these methods can be too harsh for your skin.

Combination Skin: Do you have oily T-zone and cheeks dry, so have you tried using a strong product? It is recommended to use an exfoliate on the T-zone and it is helpful to apply a serum once you’re done with exfoliation. P.S. use a serum that treats your specific skincare concern like wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and more.
